Eco-Friendly Agriculture

Eco-friendly agriculture preserves as much soil, water and biodiversity as possible with as few harmful side effects as possible. Eco-friendly farming and ranching play a crucial role in long-term food security. Map shows barriers: species hurt by water diversion and land clearing; dairy and feedlot pollution; predator management; and harms to human health.

Dreams: Many more lower input, diverse and organic crop farms, and grassfed, pasture-fed and organic livestock raising; species- and habitat-friendly farming and ranching that share in-river water with other creatures, and habitat for sensitive plants and animals; and specific strategies for pathogens, pests, and invasive plants targeted to avoid with predators, receiving payments for ecosystem services; confined animal operations (CAFOs) for beef and dairy cows limit and remediate their groundwater pollution; livestock nutrition minimizes greenhouse gasses; and CAFOs limit dust and bioaerosols that cause asthma and worsen respiratory diseases and allergies. Both farms and ranches become carbon sequesters.
