Environmental Justice in New Mexico

Map shows counties that violate air pollution standards; where methane extraction and ranching create property rights and environmental conflicts; the five energy-related superfund sites; the main sources of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide pollution; and the location of the most severe area for cancer. In contrast, it also shows the areas of parks requring the best air quality. Finally, poorest counties and the areas of uranium and fossil fuel production are shown. EJ works to stop the health impacts of energy development (mines, gas wells, cars); to prevent vulnerable citizens from losing their electric power; to help them with weatherization and energy efficiency; and to minimize energy development’s footprint on New Mexico’s lands and waters.
